The Nationals fell to the Mets on Friday night (NYM 7, WAS 5), but they may have suffered a bigger loss when center fielder Adam Eaton appeared to injure his lower leg while trying to leg out a ground ball. Here's what happened:

That's concerning, to say the least. Not much is known for know about the extent of Eaton's injury ...

In other words, the results of that MRI on Saturday will have significant bearing on the Nationals' outlook over the remainder of 2017. Here's hoping for the best.

This winter, the Nats of course paid a high price in trade for Eaton. In addition to stabilizing center field for the reigning NL East champs, Eaton's batting a highly productive .297/.393/.462 with three stolen bases on the young season. Suffice it to say, losing Eaton for a significant amount of time would be a serious blow to the Nats.
