Professor gives classic response after student skips class to attend Cubs parade
Some professors are cooler than others
Last Friday, after winning their first World Series title in 108 years, the Cubs paraded through downtown Chicago to celebrate with fans who have literally been waiting a lifetime to see a championship. Roughly five million people attended the parade.
One of those five million was Kayla Adams, a student at Trinity Christian College in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights. According to Bob D'Angelo of the Dayton Daily News, Adams sent an email to her criminal justice professor letting him know she would miss class to attend the parade. Her professor, Dennis Connelly, had a classic response:
Kayla, I think what you meant to say is as a criminal justice student, you are very interested in how police handle large crowds. For this reason you have decided to get first hand research seeing the Chicago Police work with a large crowd. I think it is very commendable that you are so dedicated to criminal justice, that you are spending your time and money to do this important research. Please be safe. Dr. Connelly.
Outstanding. Some professors are cooler than others, and Dr. Connelly sure seems like one of the cool ones.
Unfortunately, one of Adams' other professors wasn't so thrilled she missed class to attend the parade, but hey, what can you do? Going to see the parade after the Cubs win their first World Series in more than a century is a once in a lifetime experience.
