At some point in 2017 (or maybe 2018, but hopefully the process doesn't drag on that long), the Marlins will be sold from the ownership of Jeffrey Loria. Several days ago, reports indicated that the group headed up by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and future MLB Hall of Famer and former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter had won the bidding, but commissioner Rob Manfred on Thursday said that there was still another group involved in the bidding. A reported possible snag is the Bush-Jeter group needing to raise more money in order to get to the $1.3 billion bid.

Regardless, there's still officially another group with a shot at the team.

It appears that's the group headed up by Tagg Romney, the son of former Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Hall of Famer Tom Glavine is involved in that group as well, as has been previously reported

The reports that the Bush-Jeter group "won" the bidding could still be true, but if that group can't secure the financing and/or gain league approval, the team will be sold to another group. That very well could end up being the Romney group that includes Glavine.

Or things could fall through with both groups and the future Marlins ownership will be a different group.

The situation remains fluid, but we've got to consider the Bush-Jeter group the leaders in the clubhouse with Romney-Glavine still having a shot.
