The pair of AL clubs will kick off their 2022 campaigns at Target Field

The Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners will kick off their 2022 seasons at Target Field on Friday, April 8. The Twins enter the year looking for a big bounce-back after they finished last in the AL Central following back-to-back division titles in 2019 and 2020, while the Mariners are aiming to end their postseason drought (21 years and the longest in North American pro sports) after a lengthy rebuild. The pitching matchup will feature right-hander Joe Ryan vs. reigning AL Cy Young winner, left-hander Robbie Ray.

Storylines
Twins: The Twins are looking the bounce back after a disappointing 2021 season. The club followed up back-to-back AL Central titles (which included a 101-win 2019 season) with a last-place finish in the American League Central. That meant that they finished behind the rebuilding Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. So, can the Twins' new star shortstop, Carlos Correa, help their cause this season?
Mariners: The Mariners are a rebuilding/rebuilt team on the cusp of contention. The offseason additions of reigning AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, All-Star Jesse Winker and third baseman Eugenio Suárez will be a nice boost to an already solid lineup and rotation. Even with expanded playoffs this year, Seattle is just going to have to play really good baseball in order to breakthrough.
