Compton mostly played on special teams for the Redskins during the first half of the 2017 campaign but was forced into a starting role after Mason Foster (shoulder) went down in Week 7. However, Compton only lasted a few games before getting injured himself, and he ultimately finished the season on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury. The linebacker didn't require surgery and said he felt close to fully recovered in mid-January, but this kind of injury can require a delicate recovery process and he may still be a ways off from receiving full medical clearance. In any case, Compton should be healthy by the time training camp rolls around in July. Considering the Titans let Avery Williamson walk in free agency, Jayon Browns seems to be his only competition for the starting job next to Wesley Woodyard.
The fact he didn't require surgery suggests Compton, who spent the final seven games of the 2017 campaign on injured reserve, isn't dealing with a particularly severe Lisfranc injury. In fact, Compton indicated in mid-January that while his foot still felt sore at the end of the season, his foot "should be healed soon." Thus, it seems the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent possesses favorable odds of being healthy in time for the start of free agency in March.
Compton suffered a Lisfranc sprain in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, bringing his season to end. The veteran linebacker played almost exclusively on special teams to begin the season, but started the past two games against the Seahawks and Vikings after Mason Foster (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve. In nine games this season, Compton recorded 19 tackles (13 solo), three pass defensed and one interception. Look for Martrell Spaight and Josh Harvey-Clemons to see increased defensive snaps from here on out with Compton sidelined.
Compton suffered Lisfranc sprain in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Compton underwent an MRI exam Monday which revealed the extent of the injury. Head coach Jay Gruden said the 28-year-old will miss "a few weeks", but also indicated the team will decide later this week whether to placed him on injured reserve. Martrell Spaight and Josh Harvey-Clemons should see increased defensive snap counts in his absence.
