Jonathan Quick, you are ridiculous.

The Los Angeles Kings goalie is no stranger to making highlight-reel saves, but what he did Monday night against Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks was just filthy. Given the quality of the save and the situation it came in, it just doesn’t get much better than this.

With the Kings and Sharks tied 2-2 in the dying seconds of the second period, Couture found himself in space after a bad turnover in L.A.’s zone. Tommy Wingels picked up the loose puck along the boards, broke for the Kings’ net and sold the shot before dishing a surprise pass to the wide-open Couture.

Drew Doughty was down and out in front of Quick after failing to stop the pass. It was just Couture and the yawning net… oh, and Quick’s paddle.

The Kings netminder lunched out with his right arm outstretched, sending his stick as far as it could go to protect the far post. The result was one of the best saves we’ve seen all season.

Couture was so sure that was in, he went to raise his arms in celebration, but nope. Doughty cleared the loose puck away and time expired, leaving the game tied heading into the second intermission.

Quick has had one of his stronger seasons in the NHL this year, despite some recent rough performances. He came into Monday night’s action with a .918 save percentage to go along with a 38-20-4 record.

The Kings are in good position to win the Pacific Division thanks in part to the play of their goaltender. With a save like that, perhaps Quick is rounding into that playoff beast mode we’re so used to seeing from him.
