WATCH: Sabres fans suit up, wait for next shift from bench-side seats
A couple of Buffalo Sabres fans didn't think seats next to the bench were enough, so they suited up in full uniform hoping for a shift.
Ask any hockey fan that has sat along the glass and they’ll tell you that it feels like you’re basically in the game. You can’t get any closer. For some Buffalo Sabres fans, being close to the action wasn’t enough.
The pair of fans must have shelled out some serious cash for bench-side seats immediately next to the visiting Sabres as they took on the Montreal Canadiens in Bell Centre.
The two "Sabres" were there in full team regalia, which is to say they had their away white jerseys and their white helmets complete with all the appropriate decals. And as all players know, you need to dry off after a long shift and stay hydrated, so they had their own towels and water bottles at the ready. There were some extra refreshments, too. Again, hydration is key.
The "players" even had all the mannerisms of a guy waiting for his next shift. Had there not been glass separating them from everyone else (who appeared to be trying not to laugh in their place of business), Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma very well could have tapped them on the shoulder for a few shifts.
But at least those guys now know what it's like to be that sixth defenseman the coach just doesn’t trust enough to throw out there for a few shifts. Whatever you gotta do to help the team get those two points, right?
The Sabres beat the Habs, 4-2, after scoring three goals in the third period and those two didn't even have to wait for the final buzzer for a few celebratories.
