WATCH: T.J. Oshie meets little Blues fan who sobbed after his trade
T.J. Oshie finally got to meet Libby Lu, the little Blues fan whose meltdown after he got traded went viral. She was pretty darn excited to see him.
When T.J. Oshie was traded to the Washington Capitals, it was a tough day for a lot of St. Louis Blues fans who had cheered for him for the previous seven seasons. No one took it harder than 5-year-old Libby Lu, who was inconsolable after her favorite player got dealt.
Her mini meltdown was posted to YouTube and ended up going viral.
After all of the attention the sad little fan received, she got a phone call from Oshie while being interviewed on ESPN’s SportsCenter. Oshie also sent her a care package full of gear from his new team over the summer.
The Blues, however, weren’t scheduled to host the Capitals until their last home game of the season. That was on Saturday night. Libby and her family were on hand to see Oshie’s return to St. Louis and the Capitals winger met up with them before the game. The results are as adorable as you'd expect.
Libby, clad in all Capitals gear, gave Oshie multiple big hugs and presented him with a picture she drew for him. She also made a sign to cheer him on during the game.
Oshie told reporters after that it meant a lot to him that Libby and her family continued to be fans even after he left and that it shows how passionate Blues fans are about hockey. Obviously it meant a lot to the little one as well that she got to meet her favorite player.
With it being Oshie’s first game back, the Blues also played an in-game video tribute, for which the ex-Blues forward received a loud ovation from the fans in Scottrade Center.
It was a warm welcome back for the ex-Blue. Oshie then ended up picking up an assist on Alex Ovechkin’s 50th goal as the Capitals throttled the Blues 5-1. So that video tribute might be the last time he gets a big cheer in St. Louis.
