Capitals' Hendrix Lapierre: Ends slump with helper
Lapierre notched an assist and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.
Lapierre recently missed two games -- one due to an illness, the other a healthy scratch. That scratch was likely a long time coming, as his assist Tuesday ended an 11-game point drought. The 23-year-old remains in a fourth-line role when he plays, and he's at six helpers, 26 shots on net, 22 hits and a plus-1 rating through 34 appearances, down from eight assists in 27 regular-season games a year ago.

Capitals' Dylan Strome: First power-play goal of season
Strome scored a goal in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Strome's power-play snipe put the Caps up 2-1 at 8:40 of the second period. It looked like Igor Shesterkin had robbed the pivot with a sharp glove save at the right post, but video review determined the puck had crossed the goal line. It was Strome's first PPG of the season; he had nine last year. Strome is on a modest three-game, four-point scoring streak (one goal, three assists, six shots). Overall, he has 27 points, including 20 assists, in 35 games this season.

Capitals' John Carlson: Five points in last four games
Carlson scored a goal in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
He wired a snap shot from the top of the right circle 23 seconds into the second frame and beat Igor Shesterkin stick side. Carlson has a point in each of his last two games (one goal, one assist) and five points, including two goals, in his last four outings. Overall, his 11.4 shooting percentage remains bloated -- his career average over 1,121 regular-season games is a tidy 6.3. However, Carlson's current scoring pace is as good as what he put up in his late 20s, so we'll take everything we can get from this 35-year-old.

Capitals' Ryan Leonard: Back from injury with big bang
Leonard picked up two assists Tuesday in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers.
It was his first game back after missing seven with facial and upper-body injuries. Leonard had started to flash greatness right before he got hurt -- he had a four-point effort the game before he got hurt and seven points, including five assists, in a four-game streak. Leonard is an impressive rookie this season -- his 0.67 points/games played is third behind only Ivan Demidov (0.81) and Beckett Sennecke (0.76) on the rookie scoring list.

Capitals' Aliaksei Protas: Pace finally quickening
Protas had a goal and an assist in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Protas had put Washington back ahead 3-2 at 12:11 of the second period, scoring on a snap shot from the bottom of the left circle off a rebound. Protas has four points, including three goals, and eight shots in his last four games. He has picked up the offensive pace of late with 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in his last 19 games.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Team collapses around him
Thompson allowed six goals on 20 shots Tuesday in a 7-3 loss to the Rangers.
Tuesday was a hot mess for the Caps, who were leading until Taylor Raddysh tied the game 3-3 on a fluke deflection at 8:10 of the third period. The floodgates opened, and Thompson was hung out to dry. The Rangers sniped five unanswered goals. Thompson is 1-3-1 with one shutout and 17 goals allowed in his last five starts. Overall, the Caps have lost six of seven games (1-4-2), so Thompson needs to be benched until the team gets this figured out. He's solid, but he's not a superstar.

Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Unavailable Tuesday
Sandin (upper body) won't play against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Sandin will miss at least one game, but he has some time to recover before Saturday's road matchup against New Jersey. He has accounted for two goals, 10 points, 36 shots on net, 55 blocked shots and 45 hits across 31 appearances this season.

Capitals' Tom Wilson: Absent due to illness Tuesday
Wilson (illness) won't play Tuesday versus the Rangers.
Wilson was initially labeled a game-time decision, but he won't be in action. Sonny Milano is expected to stay in the lineup because of Wilson's absence, while the Capitals will also get Ryan Leonard (shoulder) back from injured reserve.

Capitals' Ivan Miroshnichenko: Sent to AHL
Miroshnichenko was assigned to AHL Hershey on Tuesday, per the NHL media site.
Washington activated Ryan Leonard (shoulder) from injured reserve in a corresponding move. Miroshnichenko hasn't posted a point in two NHL appearances this season while earning three shots on goal, four hits and one blocked shot.

Capitals' Ryan Leonard: Removed from IR
Leonard (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Following a seven-game absence, Leonard is poised to return to the lineup against the Rangers on Tuesday. He has picked up seven goals, 18 points, 61 shots on net and 43 hits across 29 appearances this season.

Capitals' Tom Wilson: Game-time call against Rangers
Wilson will be a game-time decision with an undisclosed injury versus the Rangers on Tuesday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Wilson is currently stuck in a seven-game goal drought during which he has generated 22 shots and three assists. If Wilson were to miss out, Anthony Beauvillier is the strongest candidate to move into the top six, depending on the availability of Ryan Leonard (shoulder).

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Exits ice first Tuesday
Thompson was the first goalie to leave the ice Tuesday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports, indicating he'll tend the twine at home versus the Rangers.
Thompson has struggled to pick up wins of late, going 2-2-2 in his last six outings despite a 2.28 GAA and two shutouts. Still, the 28-year-old backstop continues to see the bulk of the workload for the Caps and figures to hold onto the No. 1 job heading into 2026.

Capitals' John Carlson: Supplies helper in Detroit
Carlson posted a primary assist and a plus-2 rating in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings on Sunday.
Carlson contributed an even-strength helper on Ethen Frank's second marker of the game to tie the score at 2-2 midway through the final stanza. The 35-year-old Carlson has now registered a goal and five points over his last five contests from his usual top-pairing role. The 2008 first-round selection is on pace for 68 points, which would be his most since 2021-22, when he produced 17 goals and 54 assists across 78 regular-season games.

Capitals' Dylan Strome: Reaches 20-assist mark
Strome collected two even-strength helpers, two shots, two PIM and a plus-1 rating in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Strome assisted on both of Ethen Frank's goals in the second half of this home-and-home set. Strome now has points in back-to-back outings after a five-game slump, his longest of the campaign. The left-shot center will always be a top-six fixture while seeing power-play work, so it wouldn't be surprising to see his offensive output be more consistent going forward. However, he's on pace for around 15 goals, which would be well shy of the 29 he potted over 82 regular-season games in 2024-25.

Capitals' Ethen Frank: Scores twice in defeat
Frank netted a pair of even-strength goals on three shots Sunday in a 3-2 overtime loss to Detroit.
Frank opened the scoring in the first period and also tied the score at two apiece midway through the final frame. The Colorado native had just one goal across 13 games prior to Sunday. This marked his second multi-point performance of the season, and his production is likely to remain sporadic as long as he remains in a bottom-six capacity.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Picks up loss in Detroit
Lindgren conceded three goals on 27 shots Sunday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
The Capitals forced overtime after trailing during the third period Sunday, but Moritz Seider ultimately blasted home a pass from Andrew Copp past Lindgren with just 24 seconds remaining in the extra frame. Lindgren has lost his last two starts, a small stretch in which he's given up eight goals on 59 shots. Overall, the 32-year-old has a 5-4-2 record, .888 save percentage and 3.07 GAA across 12 appearances as the backup to Logan Thompson this year. Thompson will more than likely be back between the pipes Tuesday against the Rangers.
