Spain vs. Italy score: Riccardo Calafiori own goal sees La Roja punch knockout stage ticket
While it was just a 1-0 win for Spain, Gianluigi Donnarrumma prevented it from being a one-sided scoreline

Spain are through to the Euro 2024 round of 16 with a game to spare after beating Italy 1-0 on Thursday. It was an own goal by Riccardo Calafiori that was the difference, as Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarrumma kept things close with several world-class saves in the second game for the Group B foes.
Spain were the better of the two with a dynamic, aggressive attack creating chance after chance until Italy came to life late on. Spain deserved to score as they had 17 shots while the Azzurri only had two shots and none even on target. The Italian side were saved by goalkeeper Donnarumma who had three big saves on Pedri, Nico Williams and Alvaro Morata in the first half and defended the draw until the own goal of Calafiori changed the result in the second half.
Italy barely had chances to score and were unable to defend as they did much better three years ago when they won in penalties against Spain in the semifinal of the Euro 2020. Luciano Spalletti's team are still in the race to end up second in the group and will only need a draw against Croatia on Monday to advance.
