Breanna Stewart, wife Marta Xargay Casademont announce birth of their first child
The couple welcomed Ruby Mae via surrogate earlier in August

WNBA star Breanna Stewart and her wife Marta Xargay Casademont, who is also a professional basketball player, are both new moms. The couple announced the birth of their first child, Ruby Mae Stewart Xargay, via surrogate in an Instagram post on Monday.
According to the social media post, Ruby was born on August 9.
Stewart has had quite the year.
In just the last month, she's become WNBA Commissioner's Cup MVP, an Olympic gold medalist and FIBA's Olympics MVP. Ruby actually was born just 24 hours after Stewart and Team USA won gold in Tokyo. Stewart flew from Japan back to the United States just in time to witness the birth.
Of all those accomplishments, Stewart says the new title of mother tops them.
"Ruby's arrival has been the best part of 2021 and easily one of the best moments of my life," she told PEOPLE. "Becoming a mom is bigger than anything else that I've done and I look forward to every beautiful and challenging moment as a family of three."
There are even photos of the baby sporting Olympic gold, clearly taking after her mother:
Xargay and Stewart announced their engagement in May and were married in July.
The birth of their baby will be documented in a new short film made by BleacherReport and TOGETHXR.
