WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Kevin Owens returns, teams with Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes to beat Judgment Day
Owens had not had a televised match since mid-July
Kevin Owens, one half of the undisputed WWE tag team champions, had not wrestled on television in over a month. That changed on Monday when Owens returned to Raw to help Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes to take down The Judgment Day.
Owens and tag partner Zayn were set to take on two members of Judgment Day in the main event, but Rhodes inserted himself after Dominik Mysterio's interference resulted in a disqualification. The main event then became a six-man tag match that saw the local boys team with Rhodes to score a big main event victory.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec.
Owens returns, teams with Zayn and Rhodes to beat Judgment Day
Sami Zayn opened the show ready to cut a promo. Instead, Zayn basked in the cheers from his hometown fans until his return was cut off by Judgment Day, with the four members surrounding the ring. Zayn asked them to wait a moment before they attacked, following up by asking if they really thought he'd come alone. This brought the return of Kevin Owens, who had been sidelined due to injury. Owens helped Zayn run off Judgment Day before saying it'd been too long since he'd had a match and challenged any two members of the faction to face the tag champions later in the evening. Later, JD McDonagh and Finn Balor were being interviewed when Rhea Ripley intervened, saying Balor needed to join Judgment Day to decide who would participate in the match, stopping McDonagh from coming with as the conversation was "Judgment Day only."
Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens def. Judgment Day (Finn Balor & Damian Priest) via disqualification after interference by Dominik Mysterio. Judgment Day continued to beat down Zayn and Owens until Cody Rhodes, who said earlier in the night that he'd be keeping an eye on the match, made the save. Rhodes then said Raw couldn't end like that and demanded a six-man tag match, which WWE official Adam Pearce immediately made official.
Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens def. Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio & Dominik Priest) via pinfall after Owens hit Mysterio with a stunner. Rhodes first hit Mysterio with Cross Rhodes before Zayn delivered a Helluva Kick and Owens finished things off to send the Quebecois fans home happy.
Owens returning is a good thing, obviously. He and Zayn had a lot of momentum that was halted when he was sidelined and there's a solid tag division developing on Raw. Rhodes' involvement feels like he is killing time but maybe Balor is in his future. Grade: B
