WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Priest and Ripley get revenge on Judgment Day, Reed brutalizes Rollins

WWE wasted no time getting to big stories after Saturday's SummerSlam. Monday night's episode of Raw was packed with big moments and the building blocks as they move to Battle in Berlin and beyond.

Among the biggest moments coming out of Monday were Gunther agreeing to defend the world heavyweight championship against Randy Orton, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley looking for revenge on their former Judgment Day teammates, and a brutal attack by Bronson Reed that sent Seth Rollins to the hospital.

The Wyatt Sicks also made a successful in-ring debut, defeating Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers in the night's main event.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.

Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley go after the new Judgment Day

Damian Priest called out Finn Balor early in the show. Balor appeared on the Tron to refuse the challenge, saying JD McDonagh would face Priest instead. Balor went on to say that he waited a year to get revenge after he felt Priest cost him the world title and would wait for another opportunity to stab Priest in the back. Balor then introduced the new Judgment Day, with Balor, Carlito, JD McDonagh, Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan.

Damian Priest def. JD McDonagh via disqualification after Finn Balor attacked Priest. Priest tried to bounce back from the attack but the rest of Judgment Day swarmed. Priest eventually fought everyone off until he was alone in the ring with Balor, but Liv Morgan pulled Balor free and distracted Priest until Dominik Mysterio could take out Priest's knee. Rhea Ripley's music hit and she ran to the ring, catching Morgan and slamming her into the ring post. Ripley was about to put Morgan through the commentary desk before Mysterio saved Morgan. Back in the ring, Ripley and Priest took out McDonagh as the segment ended.

Priest and Ripley finally fully turning babyface made sense, even if it was a little unearned considering they did things like break apart the Mysterio family and never acknowledged those actions. But the crowd is into Priest more than ever despite Priest dropping the title to Gunther at SummerSlam, and they are also more into Ripley than ever before. That's a good thing and having Judgment Day be filled with despicable personalities is the right way to go. Grade: B+

Bronson Reed sends Seth Rollins to the hospital

CM Punk came face-to-face with Seth Rollins. Rollins was looking for a fight after Punk hit him with a GTS when Rollins was refereeing Punk's match with Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. The two were about ready to come to blows when Drew McIntyre interrupted from the crowd. McIntyre's finally got Punk to break eye contact with Rollins and leave the ring by pointing out that he still had Punk's friendship bracelet with the name of his wife and dog.

After Punk left the ring, Bronson Reed, who earlier told Adam Pearce that he would be looking to make his own path to the top if Pearce wasn't going to provide opportunities, attacked Rollins. This culminated in Reed hitting Rollins with the Tsunami six times and leaving Rollins spitting up blood.

The issues between Punk and McIntyre were obviously going to continue, regardless of your feelings toward a bracelet now being the key object in the entire story. What WWE needed to figure out was a way to get Rollins -- who is tied to both men -- out of the situation for a bit. They did that by finally hitting on a moment for Reed that made him feel like a real threat. This was a brilliant segment for Reed and gives Rollins something to do to keep him busy and away from Punk and McIntyre for a bit. Grade: A

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Gunther was confronted by Randy Orton, with the pair eventually agreeing to a match at Bash in Berlin. Gunther opened the show to celebrate winning the world heavyweight championship at SummerSlam when Orton interrupted. Gunther said it did bother him that he didn't beat Orton clean in the King of the Ring finals and agreed but told Orton he is never caught by surprise. Orton responded he didn't even want to hit an "RKO out of nowhere," he wanted Gunther to see it coming.
  • Sheamus def. Ludwig Kaiser via pinfall after a Brogue Kick. Pete Dunne attacked Sheamus during the match but Sheamus got the win anyway. Before the match, Sheamus said all the young lions had decided to gun for him and they can bring it on because he's ready for a fight.
  • Lyra Valkyria def. Shayna Baszler via disqualification after interference from Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark. As the group tried to continue the attack, Damage CTRL ran in to run them out of the ring.
  • New Day def. Authors of Pain via pinfall with a Xavier Woods small package. Odyssey Jones ran down toward the end of the match, attacking Karrion Kross to set up the finish. Jones then jumped in the ring to save Woods from a beatdown after the match, taking out Kross and Authors of Pain.
  • A-Town Down Under def. Awesome Truth via pinfall when Austin Theory hit R-Truth with A-Town Down.
  • Iyo Sky def. Sonya Deville via pinfall with a moonsault. Baszler, Deville and Stark took out Dakota Kai backstage later in the show, injuring her knee to prevent the planned match between Deville and Kai. As a result, Sky came to the ring for the match instead and picked up the win.
  • The Wyatt Sicks def. American Made via pinfall after Dexter Lumis hit a top rope splash on Chad Gable. Gable told Maxxine Dupri that the former Alpha Academy members could keep the name before branding his new group with the Creed Brothers "American Made."
