WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Strowman and Reed destroy the ring, Rollins returns in chaotic main event
Braun Strowman outlasted Bronson Reed with an assist from Seth Rollins
Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman had been violently clashing for weeks when general manager Adam Pearce made a "Last Monster Standing Match" to settle things between the behemoths. That match went down on Monday night and it was Strowman who got the victory.
Strowman did require an assist from Seth Rollins to get across the finish line, however, with Rollins returning from a couple of months on the shelf to deliver a stomp to Reed and allow Strowman to beat the count and become the "Last Monster Standing."
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Ford Center Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
Strowman and Reed destroy the ring as Rollins returns in main event
Braun Strowman def. Bronson Reed in a "Last Monster Standing Match." As expected, there were plenty of highlight-reel moments and chaos. The pair barreled through barricades, including taking out the first row of "fans," which led the referee to be outside the ring and not count after Reed hit Strowman with a pair of Tsunamis. Strowman made a comeback amid the ensuing chaos, including diving from the top rope onto security and Reed outside the ring.
As Strowman attempted to climb the turnbuckles again, he was caught by Reed who eventually delivered a superplex that caused the ring to collapse. The referee began the 10-count and it appeared Reed would rise to his feet and win the match. Instead, Seth Rollins returned for the first time since being taken out of commission by Reed months ago and delivered a stomp to Reed's head on the ring steps. This allowed Strowman to beat the count and be declared winner.
This was a match that promised chaos and mayhem and delivered both. The collapsing ring was a predictable move from WWE but it's always a fun gimmick to see play out. The finish also protected both Strowman and Reed while bringing Rollins right back into the mix to start finishing things up with Reed. As usual, WWE didn't go big with a "go-home" edition of a show ahead of a Premium Live Event but the main event was memorable. Grade: B+
What else happened on WWE Raw?
- Jey Uso opened the show with a promo celebrating winning the intercontinental championship last Monday. His promo was interrupted by Bron Breakker, the man Uso defeated to win the belt. Surprisingly, Breakker only came out to express his respect for the intercontinental championship and say Uso was the better man in their match before the pair shared a handshake.
- Xavier Woods def. Rey Mysterio via pinfall with a roll-up. The match came to a conclusion when Woods ripped off Mysterio's mask attempting a counter. Mysterio was concerned with covering his face, allowing Woods to score the roll-up for the win. Kofi Kingston told Woods that Uso had offered him a shot at the intercontinental championship but that he turned it down and said it should be Woods instead.
- Zoey Stark def. Lyra Valkyria via pinfall with Z360. Sonya Deville and Shayna Baszler interfered toward the end to tilt the scales. After the match, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance ran in to save Valkyria from a post-match beatdown.
- CM Punk and Drew McIntyre came face-to-face inside Hell in a Cell. Adam Pearce and security guards were on hand to make sure a fight didn't break out before Saturday's match. Both men promised to hurt each other beyond the point of repair but did not attempt to come to blows.
- Judgment Day def. LWO via pinfall in a six-man tag team match after JD McDonagh hit Devil Inside on Joaquin Wilde. Finn Balor and Liv Morgan spoke after the match, addressing their matches with Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley, respectively. Ripley eventually came out before Priest attacked from behind, only for the numbers game to overwhelm them and allow Judgment Day to stand tall.
- Chad Gable def. Kofi Kingston via pinfall with Chaos Theory. Xavier Woods attempted to interfere to offset interference by American Made but that interference caused Woods to miss Trouble in Paradise and set up Gable for the victory.
- Gunther agreed to give Sami Zayn a shot at the world heavyweight championship. Zayn interrupted a Gunther promo and ran down how Gunther is scared of him and how Gunther crumbled when Zayn defeated him at WrestleMania. Zayn finally pushed Gunther too far and the champion attacked. Zayn briefly got some offense in but was put in a sleeper hold and then powerbombed, at which point Gunther said he would give Zayn the match.
- AOP def. The Awesome Truth via pinfall after What A Rush on R-Truth. The Miz turned on Truth before walking out on the match and setting up the finish.
