WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Uncle Howdy makes a successful in-ring debut with win over Chad Gable
Howdy fought off interference and distractions from American Made to defeat Gable
As the Wyatt Sicks storyline has been developing, the moment was always going to come for Uncle Howdy to be forced into the ring for an actual match. That match came on Monday when Howdy took on American Made's Chad Gable in the main event of Raw.
There was the expected interference by the rest of American Made, and the expected retribution by the rest of the Wyatt Sicks. In the end, it was Howdy who got the win for a successful in-ring debut.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
Uncle Howdy makes a successful in-ring debut with a win over Chad Gable
An Uncle Howdy video package aired early in the show, with Howdy calling Gable a "false prophet." Howdy said they'd given Gable chance after chance to change his ways, but he continues to lead sheep into the mouths of wolves. Gable responded later in the evening, saying that he knows Howdy is just a man and he planned to make him tap like one.
Uncle Howdy def. Chad Gable via pinfall after hitting Sister Abigail. Ivy Nile ran interference late in the match, allowing Gable to apply an ankle lock. Howdy was able to get free but Gable accidentally took out the referee. Howdy applied a mandible claw only for the Creed Brothers to pull Howdy from the ring and begin to assault him. At that point, the lights went out and the rest of the Wyatt Sicks showed up. The ensuing brawl went through the crowd while Gable attempted to throw Howdy in the ring and finish things with a moonsault. Howdy rolled out of the way and hit Sister Abigail to score the win.
This match actually answered a lot of questions about the Uncle Howdy character. He is just a man, he is vulnerable in a wrestling match and not some unstoppable supernatural force. Howdy needed to win his in-ring debut, to be sure, but the way they went about it was the right way to go if the Wyatt Sicks is going to have any legs. The match was nothing memorable but it certainly wasn't bad. In the end, everything got the job done in the right way. Grade: B
