WWE SmackDown results, highlights: Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. The Usos rematch set, Solo Sikoa beats Riddle

Zayn and Owens will run back their WrestleMania 39 main event against Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso

WWE SmackDown is getting a WrestleMania makeover when Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens make the first defense of their undisputed tag team championships against their bitter rivals, The Usos. The WrestleMania 39 rematch was made official on Friday night.

Though it appears that Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are moving on from their rivalry -- for now -- the war between The Bloodline and the tag team champions rages on. Owens and Zayn have found a valuable ally in Riddle to even up the numbers against Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. The latest episode of the blue brand laid the groundwork for a tag team title rematch and hosted a main event pitting Riddle vs. Sikoa.

The undisputed tag team championships weren't the only titles that were given new direction on Friday night. Newly crowned women's tag team champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez have their first challengers; meanwhile, intercontinental kingpin GUNTHER has a new foe in mind. This week's SmackDown also featured the first televised appearance of Shinsuke Nakamura in 2023.

WrestleMania rematch set, The Bloodline solves Riddle

It was a rough night early for The Bloodline as they were bested by the joint forces of Zayn, Owens and Riddle in a show-opening brawl. Riddle evened out the numbers after some back-and-forth on the mics between The Usos and the tag champs. Undeterred, The Bloodline would collect a debt from Riddle before the night was over.

Backstage, Zayn thanked Riddle for his support against The Bloodline and warned Riddle about just how dangerous Siko was. Owens interjected, telling Riddle to worry less about The Bloodline and more about maximizing damage. Riddle assured his allies he'd repay Sikoa for the 118 days that The Bloodline's enforcer sidelined him.

Special counsel Paul Heyman gave Sikoa a pep talk backstage ahead of Friday's main event match against Riddle. Sikoa interrupted Heyman, reminding him that he has things under control and that he's not Roman Reigns. Moments prior to the main event, Heyman informed the crowd that The Usos would get their undisputed tag team championship rematch against Zayn and Owens in two weeks on the Apr. 28 episode of SmackDown.

Sikoa def. Riddle via pinfall after catching Riddle mid-air with a super kick and laying him out with a Samoan Spike. Riddle found early success but was soon neutralized by the sheer strength of The Bloodline's enforcer. The referee ejected Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Owens and Zayn from ringside early into the match. Following an extended beatdown, Riddle landed an impressive German suplex and Floating Bro for the near fall. Owens and Zayn returned ringside to brawl with The Usos, distracting Riddle. The UFC alum appeared to have the match in his hands but opted to take out The Usos with a springboard Floating Bro. Riddle's lapsed focus gave Sikoa the space he needed to land a super kick and Samoan Spike for the pinfall.

Post-match, Sikoa slammed Riddle with a uranage on the announcer's table before burying Riddle underneath the furniture. The Bloodline watched on proudly as Owens and Zayn dug Riddle out from the rubble.

It isn't necessarily a bad thing that WWE is extending The Bloodline's existing rivalry. After all, The Usos should be entitled to a rematch after a record-setting run as tag team champs and are the types to seek revenge after losing their titles. The downside is that their riveting storyline has peaked and it's hard not to compare rather typical thematic tropes to the feud's magical run leading into WrestleMania. Riddle's inclusion is an intriguing wrinkle and it's wise that WWE is putting more emphasis on him and Sikoa as a way to freshen things up. The match was solid and WWE booked it well to keep both Riddle and Sikoa looking strong. They also set up a massive title rematch for the upcoming draft episode of SmackDown. Grade: B+

• Damian Priest def. Santos Escobar via pinfall after hitting South of Heaven. Rey Mysterio saved Escobar during a post-fight brawl.
• Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan granted Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville a shot at their women's tag team championships before sending them packing from the ring.
• Shinsuke Nakamura def. Madcap Moss via pinfall after clocking Moss with the Kinshasa. Post-match, Karrion Kross set Nakamura in his sights.
• The Viking Raiders (Erik, Ivar and Valhalla) blindsided Braun Strowman and Ricochet backstage.
