Kentucky leading scorer Isaiah Briscoe sits second straight, will undergo MRI
Wildcats leading scorer could be facing extended time out
Kentucky's leading scorer, sophomore Isaiah Briscoe, sat out a second consecutive game Friday and will undergo tests on his back.
"They're going to do an MRI tonight because they're surprised it's still bothering him," coach John Calipari said via 247sports after UK's 111-76 win over Tennessee-Martin on Friday night. "Let's hope it's clear for his sake."
Briscoe is averaging 18 points and 52 percent shooting in the three games he has played this year. He has not played since Nov. 20 against Duquesne.
Calipari originally referred to Briscoe's injury as day-to-day, but a timetable for his return seems to be determined pending the MRI results.
Adding to the injury news, veteran forward Derek Willis suffered a sprained right thumb against UT-Martin; he exited in the second half and did not return. When asked if the injury would keep him out long, Calipari said: "I have no idea. I hope not."
Willis' injury is a short-term ding to their depth in the front court, but Briscoe's back problem could be an issue. The Wildcats travel Monday to Arizona State.
