WATCH: Wisconsin player 'channels inner Steph Curry' for buzzer-beater
Bronson Koenig hit sixth threes against Xavier to send Wisconsin back to the Sweet Sixteen.
While much of the world was gripped by Texas A&M's 12-point comeback in the final 33 seconds to force overtime against Northern Iowa, No. 2 seed Xavier and No. 7 seed Wisconsin were playing one of the best games of the night, and this one finished in regulation with a buzzer-beater.
With time running out and the game tied, Bronson Koenig asked for the ball in the corner and drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Badgers a 66-63 victory.
"It was exactly how we wanted [it]," Greg Gard told CBS Sports' Dana Jacobson. "It was either Nigel [Hayes] at the wing or Bronson [Koenig] in the corner. We worked on it a few times in practice and always better when the ball goes in."
Koenig said after the game that he "channeled his inner Steph Curry" to drop the 3-pointer at the buzzer, his sixth made shot from long range. It completed a 15-4 run to close the game for Wisconsin and gave Koenig 20 points to go with seven rebounds and a pair of assists to lead the Badgers.
Wisconsin is now going back to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in six seasons and for the first time under Gard.
