Zach Hemmila, a redshirt senior offensive lineman for Arizona, died in his sleep Sunday night, athletic director Greg Byrne and coach Rich Rodriguez announced on Monday.

"The only thought on my mind right now is with Zach Hemmila's family," Rodriguez said while fighting back tears, per the Arizona Daily Star. "We lost a great young man. Everybody in our program is hurting."

The tragic news comes just two days after Rodriguez's last conversation with Hemmila, a player set to be a key piece of the offensive line rotation again in 2016. Hemmila appeared in 27 games during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, starting in six contests last season at left guard and also working as a backup center.

No further details have been released at this point, and the team was informed of the news on Monday morning.

Hemmila was a four-star in-state prospect from Chandler High School (Chandler, Ariz.) when he joined the program as part of Rodriguez's first recruiting class in 2012.
