The Indiana Hoosiers have made a coaching change, as Kevin Wilson has resigned after a 6-6 season in 2016. Indiana has decided to replace Wilson from within the program, selecting defensive coordinator Tom Allen as the new coach.

Wilson was 26-47 at Indiana over six seasons and got the Hoosiers bowl eligible in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016 for the first time since 1990-91. Indiana's best wins this season came against Michigan State and Maryland.

"I appreciate Coach Wilson's many positive contributions to our football program," athletic director Fred Glass said at Thursday's press conference. "This has nothing to do with the performance of the football team, which I view as quite positive and very much heading in the right direction."

Glass did not go into details regarding any issues involving why Wilson resigned, only noting "philosophical differences" and denied any issues with Wilson's treatment of injured players.

Earlier on Thursday, reports stated that Wilson was dismissed as coach. It's officially being termed a resignation, but SB Nation's Steven Godfrey reports that Wilson's departure was due to "repeated clashes with administration," not on-field performance. ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports that there were Indiana players interviewed about Wilson's treatment of players.

By promoting Allen, Indiana looks to continue building on the positive momentum of the past two years. As a fairly new face to the program -- Allen joined Indiana prior to the 2016 season -- he can still be expected to make a positive change in the culture of the program, which is apparently needed.

"He is demanding but not demeaning," was how athletic director Fred Glass described Allen in his introductory press conference on Thursday evening, which doubled as the announcement of Wilson's dismissal/resignation from the program.
