The Army-Navy Game is one of the most historic rivalries in college football history, and over its long history, the game has been played in either Pennsylvania or Maryland. That could be changing in 2018.

The Baltimore Sun reports both Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium have submitted formal bids to host the game in the future. The game’s current contract will end following 2017’s game in Philadelphia. The City of Brotherly Love has hosted the game more than any other city as 88 of the 118 meetings between the two service academies have taken place in Philly.

Both Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium have been hosting college football games in the last few years. The Pinstripe Bowl has been played at Yankee Stadium since its inception in 2010. Fenway Park has hosted a few regular season games with three games scheduled to be played there in 2017

Other cities in the mix to host future Army-Navy games according to the report are East Rutherford, New Jersey; Baltimore; Foxborough, Massachusettes; and Washington D.C.

If either Fenway or Yankee Stadium are chosen to host the 2018 game, it will be the first time the game has been played outside the states of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) or Maryland (Landover, Baltimore) since Navy beat Army 58-12 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford in 2002.

I have to admit, it would be weird to see the game being played in Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium, but it wouldn’t be any stranger than the time the game was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (1983) or Soldier Field in Chicago (1926).
