Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that he's unsure if Charles (knee) will be able to suit up this Sunday at Houston, Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.

The running back's practice reps in advance of Week 1 were contained to the scout team, during which Reid believes the Charles "made a little bit of improvement," according to BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site. Charles will likely need to expand his workload further before he's given clearance for actual game action, but even when he does, the breakdown of backfield reps remains an unknown. In the meantime, Spencer Ware will serve as Kansas City's No. 1 back after leading the team in both rushing and receiving in Sunday's win against the Chargers.
