| Saltalamacchia also threw out 28 potential stealers, the most by a Red Sox catcher since Jason Varitek’s 29 in 2002, as he overcame defensive miscues early in his career. Saltalamacchia has immense power potential and will likely compete for the majority of at-bats with Ryan Lavarnway and Kelly Shoppach, but he is expected to emerge as the starter.
