UFC 205 fight card: Cowboy Cerrone, Frankie Edgar in but no Conor McGregor
The first ever UFC card in New York has the majority of its main card set
UFC 205 was expected to deliver some superstar names. Instead, it looks like many of its fighters were unable to fight in time. On Wednesday, UFC made a slew of fight announcements for the historic card, but some notable names were missing from the plans.
Superstar featherweight Conor McGregor was hoping to get involved with the card after getting called out by lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. However, UFC Tonight on Fox reports that McGregor is dealing with a leg injury that will keep him out of action. Meanwhile, Alvarez and top lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, is now being discussed for UFC 206 in December, per the same report after missing the deadline to sign on for New York.
Here's how the card shakes out.
| UFC 205 fight card | |
| Fighters | Weightclass |
| Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum | Welterweight |
| Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens | Featherweight |
| Liz Carmouche vs. Katlyn Chookagian | Women's bantamweight |
| Rafael Natal vs. Tim Boestch | Middleweight |
| Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy | Middleweight |
As it stands now, the card is still missing a main event. But who could take that spot is still up in the air. If McGregor is indeed out, the only other top-tier fighters who could headline the event would be light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier and challenger Anthony "Rumble" Johnson. However, neither fighter has been eager to jump at the date two months from now.
