| Wrestler | Title / Brand | Last Week | Trend |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Roman Reigns | Raw | 2 | |
| "The Big Dog" has taken over the yard and called it his own. With shorter deliveries on the microphone and one strong match after another, Reigns is somewhat quietly doing the best work of his entire career. | |||
| 2. AJ Styles | Smackdown | 1 | |
| Despite being in a high-profile feud with Kevin Owens, Styles hasn't been booked as prominently as he was in his breakthrough 2016 campaign. He's still the company's best worker and reminded everyone as much during his Backlash match with Owens. | |||
| 3. Samoa Joe | Raw (No. 1 contender) | 3 | -- |
| Joe went from out of the rankings to No. 3 in consecutive editions. No other superstar is putting forth as real a presentation as Joe, whether on the mic talking trash or in the ring with his physicality. Joe may have been a surprise winner of the Brock Lensar sweepstakes, but he has more than proven his worthiness since. | |||
| 4. The Miz | Raw (intercontinental champion) | 4 | -- |
| His late-career mastery of the Nick Bockwinkel gimmick has extended his legacy to higher levels. He has dominated dialogue segments on Raw since winning back the title and has become one of the company's most consistently entertaining characters. | |||
| 5. Kevin Owens | SmackDown (U.S. champion) | 6 | |
| Owens has spent too much time during his current feud with Styles tangling with other wrestlers aside from the "Phenomenal One" himself. That's more booking than anything else as K.O. has used his name to put over others like Shinsuke Nakamura. It's time to remind everyone why he's such a despicable heel | |||
| 6. Shinsuke Nakamura | SmackDown | 5 | |
| WWE has found a sweet spot in terms of the best way to present Nakamura on the main roster, and his matches continue to get better by the week. You can call him "The Artist Known As," if you have to, but he'll always be "The King of Strong Style." Thankfully, his work in the ring has resembled that latter moniker as of late. | |||
| 7. Seth Rollins | Raw | 7 | -- |
| Unmoved for three straight weeks, Rollins is finally starting to look comfortable in this babyface singles run. His feud opposite Bray Wyatt has been hot since the start, and Rollins continues to wrestle with a proverbial chip on his shoulder, looking to outshine everyone else. | |||
| 8. Jinder Mahal | SmackDown (WWE champion) | 10 | |
| "The Modern Day Maharaja" sure has his limitations and certainly needs both great booking and a strong opponent to help him get over. But this experiment has been so far, so good, with Mahal making improvements each week. | |||
| 9. Baron Corbin | SmackDown (MITB briefcase) | NR | |
| This is where we get to find out just how good Corbin really is now that he has the rocket pack around his waist and a Money in the Bank briefcase in his hand. Corbin has grown into an underrated working and has improved in his communication of the anger that defines his character. | |||
| 10. Finn Balor | Raw | 8 | |
| Balor appears to be entering a stay-busy feud with Elias Sampson, designed to help "The Drifter" get over. But as soon as WWE decides to press play again and boost "The Demon King" back to the main event level, expect him to deliver and climb back up the rankings. | |||

Best of the week in WWE
Wrestler -- Samoa Joe: Given yet another opportunity to shine, Samoa Joe delivered once again. He and Reigns obviously worked well together in the main attraction on Raw, and his Coquina Clutch is continuously being booked as a devastating submission maneuver. Samoa Joe is off and running with the changes he's been given as of late.
Match -- Baron Corbin wins Money in the Bank: With high energy and big spots galore, this match appeared at one point on pace to be one of the best in its genre. It was still fantastic, featuring a standoff between Styles and Nakamura that was worth the price of admission alone and had the crowd at a fever pitch. In the end, the right guy won, too.
Move -- Big Cass' boot to knock out Enzo Amore: There were plenty of high-flying cruiserweight moves and dangerous MITB spots that competed for this nod, but the viciousness of Cass' big boot and how perfectly Amore sold it was impressive. WWE storylines involving best friends breaking apart has historically been memorable (think Hulk Hogan-Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels-Marty Jannetty and Kevin Owens-Chris Jericho). You can say what you want about how this one was handled, but Cass' exclamation point make an incredible statement.

Promo -- Roman Reigns to open Raw: It wasn't quite a full heel turn, but Reigns continues to showcase an edgier, antihero persona that is adding layers of depth to his character. His verbal take down of Samoa Joe was epic as Reigns continually called him "just Joe," setting the stage for some Samoan-on-Samoan violence. But the way in which Reigns boasted of his successes without a hint of humility or care for the fans' response was what sealed it.
Show -- Raw: It was red-hot off the start with Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe and only escalated with Braun Strowman's return. In between, from The Miz's comedic exploits and recruitment of a security team to Kurt Angle's search for Enzo Amore's attacker, it was three hours that were well invested.
