The WWE Superstar Shakeup came to its conclusion on Tuesday, and unlike Monday on Raw, it was the biggest news of the evening.

Though one could argue Raw still got the better end of the shakeup, as is to be expected, SmackDown added some quality pieces Tuesday including United States champion Kevin Owens, Charlotte Flair, The New Day and Sami Zayn.

Check out the full list of Superstar Shakeup changes to Raw and SmackDown here.

SmackDown also featured the return of AJ Styles to a title picture ... just not the one involving the WWE championship, which certainly raises some questions as to WWE’s plans for him and the two heavyweight titles being contested in three weeks at Payback.

WWE SmackDown results

In the ring -- Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn and AJ Styles: Sporting a new haircut and closely-trimmed beard, Owens proclaimed SmackDown the “new Kevin Owens Show” and played up that he’s a Canadian holding the United States title. He then spoke in French and challenged anyone to step up to him. “I am here for me, and I am here to be the new face of America.” Corbin’s music hit, and he claimed Owens could probably beat up most people in the arena and backstage but not him. Corbin then said he beat Dean Ambrose so bad he took the intercontinental title to Raw, Owens was beat by Ambrose on Monday, and Corbin is owed a championship match so it might as well be for the U.S. title.

When Owens began refuting that claim, Zayn’s music hit, which drove Owens insane that his former best friend and fiercest rival followed him to SmackDown. Soon after, Styles made his way to the ring. As the crowd chanted his name, Styles ensured Owens it was not his own show, but it was all about him. “This is about SmackDown Live, the house that AJ Styles built. And I’m still here,” he said. This led general manager Daniel Bryan to come out and explain that Owens will still defend the title against Chris Jericho at the Raw pay-per-view Payback, and if Jericho wins, he will also join SmackDown. The other three would battle for the No. 1 contendership in the main event.

If Owens and Zayn are the “trade” for Dean Ambrose and The Miz, SmackDown is the early winner in this shakeup. Hot start to the show with a couple fan favorites, though I maintain this process is so convoluted, especially with matches still being held at Payback.

Randy Orton def. Erick Rowan via disqualification: Bray Wyatt appeared on the TitanTron as Orton was setting up for the RKO. When Wyatt was done, Orton rolled outside and hit with the steel steps by Rowan, who then flattened him in the ring.

OK so Rowan, who returned to rejoin Wyatt only for Wyatt to move to Raw eight days later, just got to beat up the new WWE champion at the opening of SmackDown? Yuck.

Tag Team Championship -- The Usos (c) def. American Alpha via pinfall to retain the titles: Though they were able to hit the Tech Fall, Alpha had their pinfall attempt broken up. The Usos then attempted to dive outside the ring, but Alpha each caught them mid-air for a pair of suplexes. It was mayhem back in the ring with The Usos eventually hitting a superkick and frog splash on Gable for the 1-2-3 and a clean victory. After the match, The Shining Stars ran in from the crowd to attack Alpha.

WWE really should’ve saved the Alpha-Usos title change a few weeks ago for WrestleMania. They put on some great matches and were the wrong rivalry to leave off the card. But with another clean Usos win, it feels like Alpha is being buried when they should be featured.

Mojo Rawley def. Jinder Mahal via pinfall: The crowd chanted, “We want Gronk,” as Rob Gronkowski was at ringside, again. I know it’s the offseason, but does he not have better things to do? Oh yeah, Mahal made his SmackDown debut and wound up face-to-face with Gronk, who threw a drink in his face this time. Rawley took advantage and won. After the match, Rawley hurdled the ringside barrier, jumping into Gronk’s arms.

In the ring -- Shane McMahon announces new women’s division members: A promo aired a couple times noting McMahon had a major announcement to make about the women’s division. He hit the ring in the middle of the show and called out the remaining four women. McMahon pulled a swerve by announcing that a daughter of a Hall of Famer and tremendous athlete in her own right was joining the team, calling on Tamina Snuka. As he was about to step out of the ring, he announced Charlotte Flair was also joining SmackDown, and she made a short entrance.

I legitimately laughed when Tamina entered, but the swerve also took away from Charlotte’s announcement. The formality of the segment was also strange as Charlotte’s music alone would’ve been a nice jolt to the audience.

Promos -- Rusev, Sin Cara and Lana: Rusev and Sin Cara were announced as new members of SmackDown, though Lana was not on the graphic with Rusev. After the commercial break, WWE aired a separate, “sexier” promo for Lana, noting that she would be “coming soon.”

Tye Dillinger def. Aiden English via pinfall: English moved away from his Vaudevillian character with Simon Gotch now fired by WWE. He began singing in the ring before Dillinger interrupted. The match was short with the Tye Breaker resulting in a 1-2-3.

In the ring -- Dolph Ziggler and Shinsuke Nakamura: Ziggler announced he was not going anywhere and said fans would soon tire of the new superstars brought to SmackDown, leading to Nakamura’s entrance and an incredible reception from the crowd. “Who exactly do you think you are?” Ziggler asked with the crowd chanting “Nak-a-mur-a” as a response before singing Nakamura’s entrance music acapella. “You want to know who I am? I am Shinsuke Nakamura,” he replied as the crowd chanted his name again. Ziggler feigned like he was leaving but instead attempted a superkick, which Nakamura caught before taunting him, leading Ziggler to retreat.

While I like Ziggler as Nakamura’s first rivalry, it’s unfortunate that he’s just going to do another job. Nakamura does not speak much, of course, but he could have done more in this segment. That’s two weak ones for him in his first two appearances.

Promo -- The New Day: Also announced as “coming soon.”

U.S. Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match -- AJ Styles def. Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin via pinfall: Corbin held the advantage during the middle portion of the match, but Zayn had his moment with an exploder suplex on Corbin. Styles followed with a Ushigoroshi (fireman’s carry neckbreaker) on Zayn but was then leveld by a clothesline by Corbin. Zayn got a two count following a Blue Thunder Bomb on Styles and nearly rolled up Corbin a few moments later. Corbin followed with a Deep Six on Zayn, and Styles knocked Corbin down with a heel kick and 450 splash. The three then traded similar  maneuvers until the finish, which included Zayn knocking Corbin out of the ring with a Helluva Kick and Styles planting the Phenomenal Forearm to win.

Corbin held his own with Styles and Zayn, which was impressive. Surprised that Styles -- a main eventer and recent WWE title holder -- is in the U.S. title picture considering Wyatt was lost to Raw and John Cena is out of action. SmackDown has a dearth of main-eventers right now and Payback is still three weeks away, meaning a title match for Styles is even further down the line. Who exactly is going to challenge Orton when Wyatt is gone ... or are they about to put the universal and WWE titles on Raw?
