Miami head coach Jim Larranaga is being rewarded for bringing the Hurricanes their first ACC regular season and tournament championship.

On Thursday, the school announced that Larranaga, 63, had signed an extension through the 2022 season.

“Since Jim and Liz’s arrival at the University of Miami in 2011, they have had a tremendous impact not only on our basketball program and our student-athletes, but also on the South Florida community,” athletic director Blake James said. “The phenomenal on-court success of the team last season is just the start of something great. We are thrilled that Jim and Liz will be a fixture at UM for many years to come.”

Larranaga was named the National Coach of the Year by multiple outlets last season, after guiding the Hurricanes to a No. 2 ranking and a Sweet 16 appearance. Miami also set a school record with 29 wins.

He was the head coach at George Mason for 14 seasons, before taking over at Miami prior to the 2011-12 season.
