Kansas freshman Josh Jackson suspended for first game of the Big 12 tournament
Kansas has dealt with off-the-court issues all season long, and now its star freshman will sit
Josh Jackson has been suspended by Kansas coach Bill Self for the team’s first Big 12 tournament game. The announcement came from Self on Wednesday morning, according to the Kansas City Star.
Kansas’ first conference tournament game will be Thursday in the quarterfinals vs. the TCU-Oklahoma opening-round winner.
Jackson has been suspended in connection to a Feb. 2 “traffic incident,” per the Star. But Self only was told of the happening by Jackson on Monday. Jackson reportedly hit a parked car while backing out with his car and did not leave a note.
“Although Josh has acknowledged his responsibility and has handled it himself, he didn’t tell me about it until Monday,” Self said in prepared release. “He should have left his contact information at the time and notified us immediately.”
The suspension is not outwardly connected to Jackson’s role in the damage of a car belonging to a woman on Kansas’ basketball team back in December. The father of that women’s player has recently come out and been critical of Kansas athletic department and questioned why his daughter faced punishment, but Jackson did not miss any games. Jackson has been cited for three traffic violations, per the Star, and is due in court on March 27, a Monday.
