The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Charlotte 49ers will face off in a Conference USA clash at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 19 at Henderson Center. Marshall will be strutting in after a victory while Charlotte will be stumbling in from a defeat.

The Thundering Herd sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-63 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs on Thursday. Four players on Marshall scored in the double digits: guard Marko Sarenac (16), guard Taevion Kinsey (15), forward Mikel Beyers (12), and guard Andrew Taylor (10).

Meanwhile, Charlotte came up short against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Thursday, falling 77-67. Despite the loss, Charlotte had strong showings from guard Austin Butler, who had 21 points, and guard Jahmir Young, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds in addition to seven dimes.

Barring any buzzer beaters, Marshall is expected to win a tight contest Saturday. They hadn't treated bettors all too well in the past (they are 6-18), but they might be worth taking a chance on now after beating the spread two games in a row.

The Thundering Herd's victory brought them up to 10-16 while the 49ers' loss pulled them down to 13-12. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Marshall is stumbling into the contest with the 17th most points allowed per game in college basketball, having given up 76.4 on average. Charlotte has experienced some struggles of their own as they have allowed their opponents to shoot 46.50% from the floor on average, which is the 16th highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
