What to Know
The #19 Tennessee Volunteers' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the #6 Arizona Wildcats at 7 p.m. ET Dec. 22 at Thompson-Boling Arena. These two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
The Volunteers simply couldn't be stopped last week, as they easily beat the South Carolina Upstate Spartans at home 96-52. Tennessee's forward Olivier Nkamhoua looked sharp as he had 21 points along with eight boards.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats took their game against the California Baptist Lancers this past Saturday by a conclusive 84-60 score. Arizona's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but center Christian Koloko led the charge as he posted a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds in addition to four blocks. Koloko has also now had at least four blocks in his past three games.
Barring any buzzer beaters, Tennessee is expected to win a tight contest Wednesday. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (6-3), so they might be worth a quick bet.
The wins brought Tennessee up to 8-2 and Arizona to 11-0. A couple stats to keep an eye on: The Volunteers come into the matchup boasting the 16th fewest points allowed per game in college basketball at 57.9. But the Wildcats rank first in college basketball when it comes to points per game, with 91 on average. These opposing strengths should make for an exciting matchup.
