Charlotte QB Kevin Olsen, brother of Greg Olsen, indicted on rape charges
Kevin Olsen remains suspended indefinitely from Charlotte football
Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen was indicted on three counts of rape, and other charges, by a grand jury in Mecklenburg County on Monday.
The charges come from a February incident and arrest involving a woman he was dating, and the indictments include three counts of second-degree rape, one count of second-degree sexual offense and two counts of assault on a female.
According to the Charlotte Observer, each of Olsen's rape charges carries a possible 10-year sentence, though he remains free on bond, enrolled at Charlotte and suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities.
Olsen is the younger brother of Carolina Panthers' tight end Greg Olsen. The family has declined to comment on the case, and Olsen's attorney did not elaborate on Monday's indictment, according to the Observer.
In February, prosecutors alleged that Olsen "threatened to strangle himself with a phone charger moments before" committing sexual assault, threatened to kill the alleged victim earlier in the night and "punched her in the face." Olsen's attorney said at the time that his client denies "99 percent" of the account read in court.
A former four-star prospect, Olsen began his career with Miami before a number of legal issues -- including a DUI, failed drug test and possession of a fake ID -- led to three suspensions and forced a transfer to Towson. He was subsequently dismissed from Towson less than four months after joining the program for what was announced as a violation of team rules. Olsen's next stop was Riverside Community College, where he played until joining Charlotte in January 2016.
Olsen started the first five games of the 49ers' season but eventually lost his job. He missed the next six games before seeing action in the Charlotte's season finale last November.
