The Florida Atlantic Owls will take on the Florida Gators at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The in-state battle will feature two rosters largely made up of Sunshine State athletes, many of whom have played each other throughout high school and Pop Warner. And with many FAU players likely harboring some animosity for not being recruited by the state school, it could be a hostile matchup.

However, FAU head coach Willie Taggart will have a sizable talent disparity to overcome with Dan Mullen bringing in another top-15 recruiting class nationally in 2021. The Gators are favored by 23.5-points in the latest Florida vs. FAU odds from Caesars Sportsbook, and the over-under is set at 52. Before entering any FAU vs. Florida picks, you'll want to see the college football predictions from the model at SportsLine.

What to know about the Florida Gators

The Gators are coming off an 8-4 season but will have the unenviable task of replacing Kyle Trask this season after Trask threw for 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns a season ago. Emory Jones inherits the responsibility in 2021 after completing 55-of-86 passes for 613 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception in a reserve role the last three seasons.

He has been used more extensively as a runner to this point, rushing 92 times for 514 yards and six touchdowns, and Jones' athleticism should help make up for the fact that Florida simply won't by as prolific through the air. Dameon Pierce is also back after leading the team with 503 rushing yards and four touchdowns a season ago.

What to know about the Florida Atlantic Owls

FAU started Taggart's first season at the helm by going 5-1 but lost the last three games of the season, including a 25-10 Montgomery Bowl loss to Memphis. Indiana transfer Nick Tronti fared decently as the starting quarterback but Taggart got an impact transfer when Miami's N'Kosi Perry decided to make the move and he's been named the Week 1 starter.

Perry threw for 2,484 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in three seasons with the Hurricanes and his big arm could help open up Taggart's offense. Meanwhile, the FAU defense held all but two of its opponents to under 400 yards of total offense last season and allowed opponents to complete just 54.9 percent of their passes. They'll welcome 13 of the top 14 tacklers from last year back and should be stout again.
