Romero provided four shutout innings on Monday against Las Vegas, only allowing four batters to reach base while recording three strikeouts.
Romero has only pitched in 14 games since 2013, and will begin this season with Triple-A Sacramento. A former starter for four years with the Blue Jays, Romero is trying to bounce back from a bad stretch over the past couple seasons, as he is still trying to win his first start at any level since 2013. During four appearances this spring, the 31-year-old gave up two runs and five hits in 5.2 innings. If Romero can rediscover his old form, he could provide depth in the Giants bullpen towards the end of the season, but it would be overly optimistic to suspect that scenario to play out.
