Maikel Cleto: Released by Cubs

Cleto was released by the Cubs on Monday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

It was a rough spring for Cleto, who surrendered eight runs across just three innings of work, allowing nine hits while walking three and striking out two. The 27-year-old owns a career 6.60 ERA in 45 major league innings, so he'll serve as nothing more than organizational depth wherever he's able to catch on.
