Royals' Jake Newberry: Ousted from 40-man roster

The Royals designated Newberry for assignment Monday.

Newberry was cast off the 40-man roster to make room for the Royals' starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Angels, Jackson Kowar. If Newberry isn't claimed off waivers by any of MLB's other 29 teams, he'll remain in the organization as a member of the Triple-A Omaha pitching staff.
