  • Tyler Wade SS | TEX

Padres' Tyler Wade: Losing playing time

Wade is not in Thursday's lineup against the Athletics.

Wade's playing time is drying up even in the absence of Jackson Merrill (concussion), as he's been out of the lineup in five of the Padres' last six games. Bryce Johnson is in center field for Thursday's game, drawing his second straight start.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Not starting, may be available

Baty (groin) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta, but he could be available off the bench, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

Ronny Mauricio will pick up a third consecutive start at third base while Baty sits due to a groin injury he suffered Sunday. The Mets were considering placing Baty on the injured list Wednesday, but he arrived at the ballpark Thursday feeling much better and showed improvement during pregame drills. That bodes well for his chances of avoiding a stint on the injured list, but it remains unclear when he'll be cleared to appear in a game again.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Riding pine in nightcap

Hayes isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers.

After an 0-for-4 performance during a 9-2 loss in Game 1, Hayes will grab a seat on the bench for the back half of Thursday's activities. Jared Triolo will replace him at the hot corner and bat sixth.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Ends homer drought

Norby went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.

The third baseman hadn't left the yard since May 24th, stretch of 19 games in which he'd slashed just .174/.230/.217. Norby has a somewhat disappointing four homers, six steals, 20 RBI and 25 runs and .673 OPS in 51 contests, but his 27.6 percent strikeout rate is a step up from last year's 33.0 percent mark.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Resumes light baseball activities

Chapman (hand) is expected to continue wearing his splint through the end of the week, but he is now participating in light conditioning and baseball activities, per MLB.com.

Chapman was placed on the injured list June 10 due to sprained ligaments in his right hand. The third baseman saw a hand specialist, and his X-rays came back negative. However, he could still end up being unavailable for at least the rest of June, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Casey Schmitt is expected to continue starting at third base while Chapman is sidelined.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Cleared for rehab assignment

Reds manager Terry Francona said that Marte (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Marte has been hitting without issue in recent days and was cleared to play in rehab games after an MRI on his left oblique came back clean. The young infielder has been sidelined since early May but should be ready for activation from the 10-day injured list following a handful of rehab contests. Marte has slashed .294/.342/.515 this season and could step back in as the Reds' primary third baseman upon his return.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: May need IL stint

Baty was unavailable off the bench for Wednesday's game against Atlanta and may be placed on the injured list if he doesn't show any improvement Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Baty hasn't played since Sunday due to his groin injury, and he's been progressing more slowly in his recovery than the Mets originally expected. If he's still unable to play Thursday or doesn't at least show significant improvement, the Mets may opt to place him on the IL, which would keep him sidelined for at least another week.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Out again Wednesday

Baty (groin) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

With lefty Chris Sale toeing the rubber for Atlanta, there's a good chance the left-handed-hitting Baty would have been out of the lineup even if he wasn't dealing with right groin tightness. The bigger test for his availability figures to come Thursday, when righty Spencer Strider starts for Atlanta in the series finale. The Mets are going with Jeff McNeil at second base and Ronny Mauricio at third base Wednesday.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Sitting versus lefty

McMahon is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals.

McMahon will get a rare day of rest after he started in each of the previous six games. Orlando Arcia will cover third base and bat sixth for the Rockies while McMahon gets a breather.

  • Brady House SS | WAS

Nationals' Brady House: Racks up big-league firsts

House went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Rockies.

In his second career MLB game, House banged out his first career hit with a single in the sixth inning and then drove in his first run with another knock in the ninth. The 22-year-old has reached base four times in his first nine trips to the plate for the Nationals, and while he has yet to show any power, he homered 13 times in 65 games for Triple-A Rochester prior to his promotion.
