Franzen (concussion) was placed on IR on Thursday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Franzen is currently dealling with a recurrence of the concussion symptoms he's been battling since January, which forced him to miss much of the 2014-15 season. Head injuries are always scary, and the fact that the Franzen has been dealing with the symptoms for much of the past 10 months makes his ailment particularly disconcerting. His next opportunity to return to game action will come on Oct. 23 against the Flames, but it's unclear how realistic that return date is at this point in time.
