Tate doesn't want to wait for Rousey fight, 'would love' shot at Cyborg
Miesha Tate is stuck in a similar situation to Holly Holm where she doesn't want to wait for her shot at Ronda Rousey, but will that mess up plans yet again?
When Miesha Tate locked in her rear-naked choke on Holly Holm early this month, there was a collective sigh around the country. The one thing keeping us from watching the only person to take down the unstoppable Ronda Rousey was a fighter Rousey had already beaten twice.
Now, we are staring at the third fight in the trilogy, expected to take place in November.
Well, except one thing. Tate, like Holm, would prefer not to wait until November for her next fight.
At a fan Q&A in Brisbane, New Zealand ahead of UFC Fight Night 85, Tate answered some fairly interesting questions now that she has finally climbed the mountain and won the UFC women's bantamweight title.
"I'd prefer not to wait until November," Tate said per MMAFighting.com. "I want to prove I'm the best in the world and that means fighting."
This kind of leaves the door open for Tate to take another fight at UFC 200, if she so chooses and can find a fitting opponent. Maybe someone that has been trash-talking fighters in the UFC?
Cristane 'Cyborg' Justino has been rumored to make the jump to UFC for over a year now, but the problem has always been her weightclass (155) doesn't exist in the organization.
Tate left the door open to a possible catchweight fight with Cyborg, if they can get the deal done.
"I've been hearing [the rumors] for such a long time, I just don't really know, I haven't had that confirmed. But I am open to that fight," Tate said per MMAFighting.com. "Maybe doing it at a catchweight at 140. You know, I have nothing but respect for ‘Cyborg.' She freaking eats girls for breakfast. She's amazing. And it's like, what do I have to lose in that fight? I go out there and give it everything I have, and if I'm able to take out Goliath, then I am. Yeah, I would love to step in there with someone of her caliber."
I could see something like this happening for the July pay-per-view. Dana White needs to pull some stars together for UFC 200 in July and it would make a fitting entrance to the UFC for Cyborg. Then, it would also set up a possible Rousey-Cyborg brawl in November when Rousey is healthy enough to step back in the ring if Cyborg beats Tate.
We really don't need a third Rousey-Tate, we need a first Cyborg-Rousey.
