Bob Uecker will call Brewers home games in shortened 2020 season, his 50th in the booth
Amid a pandemic, the 86-year-old broadcaster will be going to work

Intertwined with the history of the Milwaukee Brewers is former Milwaukee Braves catcher Bob Uecker. Over the course of his post-playing career, Uecker has become one of the most iconic figures in Milwaukee baseball history due to his role as broadcaster in his home town. He's coming back in 2020 -- his 50th season as a broadcaster -- despite being at a heightened risk to catching COVID-19, too.
Uecker says he plans to call the Brewers' 30 home games in person at Miller Park during the abbreviated season that will start next month.
"I'm going to do it from Miller Park," said Uecker, 86, via Brewers.com. "I'll do it in the booth with Jeff [Levering]. ...I'm going to be there and get tested just like everyone else. I wanted to go back to work. I'm glad to be going back to work."
Uecker is also known for playing Harry Doyle, the outspoken and hilarious play-by-play man for the Indians in Major League and Major League 2. He was also a pitchman in several well-known ads, most notably Miller Lite. He's been a beloved baseball figure for decades, especially in Milwaukee, and Brewers fans will surely love hearing his voice in this abbreviated season.
"I'm on the shortstop side of second base right now. I'm coming down the home stretch," Uecker told Brewers.com. "And I still want to work. I still feel like working, and I don't think that will change until I make the call that I think enough is enough and move on. We all know down the road is the bottom of the ninth, man. No matter what we do, no matter how we try to take care of ourselves, sooner or later, the time comes.
"But for me, right now, I'm feeling good. I'm happy. I'm glad I'm going back to work. I'll know when to stop. I'm not going to embarrass myself or embarrass the team. I would never do that. When I don't feel I'm capable of working anymore, whether it's 50 years or 51 years or 52 years, I don't know, but I'll be the first one to know."
