Cincinnati Reds 2020 MLB Draft tracker: Complete list of picks, including Austin Hendrick at No. 12
The Reds selected a prep star out of Pennsylvania with their first-round pick
Major League Baseball completed its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.
With the No. 12 overall pick in the draft, the Cincinnati Reds selected outfielder Austin Hendrick out of West Allegheny High School in Pennsylvania. Our experts gave Cincinnati a C for their draft efforts.
The Reds had one pick in the top 45, so there was only so much they could do. They used that slot, No. 13, on Austin Hendrick, a prep outfielder with an explosive swing and star potential. Afterward, the Reds took bets on right-handers Christian Roa and Bryce Bonnin and catcher Jackson Miller. The Reds have invested a lot into their pitching development in recent years, so they have a chance to make this class look a lot better than it does on draft night.
