Dale Scott becomes first active MLB umpire to come out as gay

For the first time in Major League Baseball -- or in any major professional sport, actually -- a game official has come out as gay. It's veteran MLB umpire Dale Scott.

The basics are that Scott has long been out to colleagues but it wasn't made public. He was profiled in Referee Magazine back in October and sent them a photo to use with Scott and Michael Rausch, Scott's domestic partner of 28 years. The two were recently married.
Scott, 55, has been an MLB umpire for the past 29 seasons. He's worked three World Series (1998, 2001, 2004), six LCS (1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2009, 2013), 11 division series (most recently this past Dodgers-Cardinals NLDS) and the 2013 Reds-Pirates wild-card game. He's also worked three All-Star Games (1993, 2001, 2011).
