Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt threw a bullpen session Friday but remains a few days away from appearing in a spring game, MLB.com reports.
Affeldt is recovering from sports hernia surgery that ended his 2013 season prematurely. He is expected to pitch live batting practice Sunday before he and the team decide how to proceed with his preparation for this season.
"I want to make sure all my stuff's ready to go before I go out there," Affeldt told MLB.com. "I don't mind taking a little extra time. I'd be highly upset if I deal with what I dealt with last year."
Affeldt made 39 appearances in his shortened 2013 season, going 1-5 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 21:17 K:BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings.
