Good news from the Marlins regarding the playing future of Ichiro Suzuki ...

CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman reports that Ichiro will receive $2 million in 2016, with the club retaining a $2-million option for 2017 as well.

Ichiro's coming off a 2015 -- his age-41 season -- in which he batted .229/.282/.279 (56 OPS+) in 438 plate appearances with one home run and 11 stolen bases. Those are really bad numbers (he had just 12 extra-base hits in 153 games), but this can be thought of a ceremonial return in some senses, as Ichiro is just 65 hits shy of 3,000 for his MLB career. Prior to that, he tallied 1,278 hits in Japan. In any event, more Ichiro is a good thing for baseball fans.

Of course, if we're really lucky, we'll get more of this ...

iViva la Ichiro!
