The Pirates have made official the worst-kept secret in baseball over the last 24 hours. That is, they have signed emerging outfielder Starling Marte to a six-year contract with club options for 2020 and 2021. What they did announce, but has been widely reported, is that the contract is worth $31 million.
Marte earned the big money with a breakout 2013 season in which he batted .280 with 83 runs and 41 steals.
