The Yankees are giving Lyle Overbay a three-day audition before he can opt out of his minor-league deal Friday, and he made the most of it Wednesday against the Orioles, collecting two singles in five at bats while playing first base the entire game.

"Try to watch his swings and make the best judgment you can in three or four days," manager Joe Girardi told the Journal News before the game. "That’s what you have to do, and see from an ability standpoint if he can help you offensively as well. … He does have a good glove, and he’s had a good glove over the years. He can save some stuff for you, there’s no doubt about it."

Overbay is in the mix to fill in for Mark Teixeira early this season.
