Oakland Athletics 2020 MLB Draft tracker: Complete list picks, including Tyler Soderstrom in Round 1
The A's went with a prep catcher with their first-round selection
Major League Baseball completed its 2020 amateur draft on Thursday night. The spread of the novel coronavirus required the draft to be held virtually instead of in Omaha, Nebraska alongside the College World Series. The owners' desire to slash costs, meanwhile, led to the draft being shortened from 40 rounds to five.
With the 26th overall pick in the draft, the Oakland Athletics selected Tyler Soderstrom, a catcher out of Turlock High School in California. R.J. Anderson had Soderstrom as the 21st-best prospect in his pre-draft rankings. The A's earned a B grade from our experts with their overall draft haul.
There was talk prep catcher Tyler Soderstrom would go in the top 10 in the days leading up to the draft, but the Athletics were able to nab him with the No. 26 pick. The rest of their picks, including second-round righty Jeff Criswell, were solid yet unspectacular. Getting Soderstrom near the end of the first round was a win. None of their other picks really stand out.
Below you'll find a draft tracker for the the A's.
