Saturday was not a good day for Astros starter Brett Oberholtzer. The left-hander loaded the bases and gave up a grand slam to Brian McCann in the first inning of his start against the Yankees, then he served up a two-run shot to Chris Young in the second.

Immediately after giving up the homer to Young, Oberholtzer threw a pitch inside at Alex Rodriguez and was ejected by home plate umpire Rob Drake. It was pretty clear Oberholtzer was frustrated, and he didn't even argue the ejection. He just walked off the field.

To the action footage:

The pitch didn't actually hit A-Rod, but it came close, and it sure looked like it was intentional. Even if it wasn't, the fact Oberholtzer didn't bother to argue makes it look like he did it on purpose and was accepting his punishment. That was the look of a pitcher who wanted to be anywhere but on the mound.

A-Rod is a bit of a pariah thanks to his past performance-enhancing drug issues. In fact, then-Red Sox righty Ryan Dempter threw at Rodriguez back in 2013, soon after his record 211-game suspension was announced. Here's the video:

From the looks of things, Oberholtzer was just upset about getting smacked around on Saturday and decided to throw at the next hitter after giving up the homer to Young. It just happened to be A-Rod. Oberholtzer probably would have thrown at the backup catcher if he was up in that spot. He was quite apparently none too pleased with his performance:

Either way, ejections come with an automatic fine, and a situation like this figures to come with a suspension. Throwing at people is bad. Getting hit around isn't an excuse to act like a baby. At least Oberholtzer was smart enough not to throw at someone's head.
