WATCH: Miguel Cabrera welcomes rookie pitcher to the big leagues with a thumbs up
Eric Skoglund got a thumb's up from Miguel Cabrera, then he beat the Tigers 1-0
On Tuesday night in Kansas City, the Royals held on for a 1-0 win (box score) over the Tigers thanks to rookie left-hander Eric Skoglund. Skoglund held Detroit to two hits and one walk in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He struck out eight. Not a bad big-league debut, eh?
In the first inning of Tuesday's game, man of the people Miguel Cabrera welcomed Skoglund to the big leagues not with loud base hit or a long home run, but with a thumb's up and a nod. Check it out:
That's awesome. Cabrera is an all-time great and a first ballot Hall of Famer, but he knows how difficult it is to get to the big leagues, and he's congratulating Skoglund on reaching the show. Pretty cool.
Anyway, Cabrera giving Skoglund a thumb's up gives me an excuse to post this video, so enjoy:

Miggy is a treasure.
By the way, Skoglund is the first starter to win a 1-0 game in his MLB debut since Ryan O'Malley of the Cubs in 2006. Skoglund did it against a brand name too. He outdueled Justin Verlander.
