Blue Jays' Landen Maroudis: Makes return from injured list

Maroudis (elbow) struck out three batters and allowed no hits and two walks over four scoreless innings Friday in his season debut for Single-A Dunedin after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list June 3.
After undergoing an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in late May of last year, Maroudis missed just under a year of game action before beginning a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on May 3. He turned in a 4.15 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB in 13 innings over five innings in the FCL before being activated from Dunedin's IL and then being sent back to rookie ball for one more start June 7. After checking out fine following that outing, Maroudis rejoined Dunedin and delivered a quality debut performance in the Florida State League. The Blue Jays will likely monitor Maroudis' innings count carefully in 2025 coming off the major arm procedure, and some shakiness with the 20-year-old's command should be expected following his lengthy layoff.

The surgery Maroudis underwent in late May was an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his right elbow, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
While the procedure ended Maroudis' 2024 season prematurely, the fact that he avoided Tommy John surgery should at least improve his odds of being ready to pitch early in the 2025 campaign. In the short period of time that the internal brace procedure has been performed by doctors, pitchers have returned to game action in as few as nine months, though the Blue Jays will likely exercise more caution with the 19-year-old Maroudis before clearing him for his 2025 debut. Maroudis had turned in an 0.84 ERA and 0.69 WHIP while striking out 12 batters in 10.2 innings with Single-A Dunedin before he was shut down in April with the elbow injury.

Maroudis is on the 7-day injured list with Single-A Dunedin due to a right elbow injury, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
He was pulled from his April 21 start after just 45 pitches despite allowing just two baserunners in 2.1 innings. Mitchell reported April 27 that the club was still waiting for results on Maroudis' elbow. All told, the 19-year-old had a 0.84 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 10.2 innings prior to landing on the shelf. It's been a rough first month for Jays pitching prospects, as Ricky Tiedemann is on the shelf at Triple-A with ulnar nerve inflammation and Brandon Barriera underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure as part of a hybrid surgery.
