DeMarre Carroll signed with the Raptors in hopes of being their 3-and-D stopper on the wing. Unfortunately, Carroll struggled to live up to the contract Toronto gave him due to a mix of injuries and his playing style not fitting in with the offense.

Carroll struggled to find cutting lanes in the mid-range and post-up heavy offense that the Raptors ran. And his defense took a step back from a knee injury. He wasn't a bad player with Toronto, but the awkward fit with his expensive contract was noticeable. That's why his eventual trade to the Nets wasn't surprising. Turns out it wasn't surprising for him either. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Carroll voiced his unhappiness from the last two seasons.

"I wasn't happy, my agent, we thought the style of ball was going to be different, it was going to be more team-oriented, but I guess it was still ISO, so I thought they would have moved me last year, but that didn't happen."

This clash in styles reportedly led to an internal battle in the locker room over how the team should be playing. Some were content with the isolation heavy style that Toronto stuck with while there were players like Carroll that wanted to see more ball movement. This clash in styles and ideals is what led to Carroll's unhappiness from a basketball stand point.

This happens sometimes in the NBA. A player ends up in a situation that they for the most part enjoy. Good city, great teammates, and an organization that they have few issues with. However, if the basketball side of things doesn't work then all of that can come crashing down. Carroll has no hard feelings against Toronto, but when it comes to basketball he seems happy to be getting a new chance elsewhere.
